Lady K-ism of the Day

Lady K: "Mommie! That man just said (whispering) bastard!"

Me: "I know, he did."

Lady K: "It's a good thing he didn't say son of a bitch!"

Lady K: "And I know I can't say this until I'm 18, you and Daddy told me so, but which is worse? Bastard or son of a bitch? I think it's son of a bitch...but maybe they're equal worse."

This brings back fond memories. I love it when kids are figuring out the world of cursing.

Sarah and Mary: The key with Lady K is to stay mellow. She was being observant rather than attention getting. I answered her calmly that both words had equal power, it was the tone that could set them apart. I had to grin, but reminded her (again) that she can start cussing when she is 18. She did ask if she could say them just one more time and then she'd stop until she was 18. I let her say both terms one more time.
She just cracks me up.

Jenna: What was your first cuss word witnessed by an adult? Mine was dammit. I slipped and fell on my butt and yelled it. My dad heard me. I think I was in the 8th grade.

Depending on which parent is telling the story my first word was either "see" or "shit".

My dad's parents took to spelling swear words in front of me when I was little. When I got back from visiting them one year (I think I was 5) I proudly and loudly for all to hear told my dad, "I know how to spell shit! S - H - I - t!" As an adult I love that I embarrassed him with that little display. Mostly because of the innocence on my part. I really was genuinely proud of myself.

My friend's youngest walked down the stairs once, "Mommie is shit the S-word?" When asked where he heard that he said, "Andrew" She yelled up in her MOM voice, "ANDREW!" Andrew very calmly answered, "Well he was saying 'shut-up' was the s-word so I had to correct him."

We couldn't stop laughing.

My aunt has a friend whose son wasn't able to say truck in his early years. He kept calling trucks frucks. His mother wasn't thrilled. My aunt on the other hand couldn't get enough of it and would point and ask him "what's that?" all the time.
