Musing Mondays....

Over at One More Page is today's Musing Monday. Today's is about bookmarks.
What do you use to mark your place while reading? Do you have a definite preference? Do you use bookmarks, paper, or (gasp) turn down the pages? If you use bookmarks, do you have a favourite one?
I definitely use bookmarks. When I was a youngun' I'd dog-ear the page of a paperback if it was my book. I'd use whatever was at hand to bookmark library books. Woe to the dog-earring person when the librarian found out.....
As I got older, I became enamoured of collecting different bookmarks. My sister turned me onto the laminated ones made from foreign stamps. I have all kinds of those and still collect them when I see one I like.
I moved on to movie or concert tickets, then my sister once again started me on a new path with beaded bookmarks. The ones with coated twine or leather string with cool beads on either end. I have a bunch of those.
I've done bookmark exchanges with friends, too. Those brought in a whole bunch of great ones.
I found a need to corral the collection and have a little enameled tin cup to hold most of narrow stamp bookmarks and a bowl to hold the beaded ones.
Lately, though, I have found some very cool postcards at my favorite post office/treasure shop near my office building. I have begun to collect those and lately have been pairing bookmark with the particular book I am reading. I started posting the image when I do my book review. I am definitely having fun with this new bookmark flight o' fancy of mine.

I need to find and then corral my bookmark collection too. Thanks for the reminder!

I was given a 'book thong' for Xmas, a cord with pretty beads at either end, that you leave in the book hanging over the ends. It's extremely neat!

I don't really have anything fancy. I'll use receipts and the magazine subscription cards and sticky notes. Though I've been steering away from sticky notes now that the glue on them keeps getting stronger. I don't like them picking up print like silly putty or starting to tear the page when I try to remove them. Apparently they don't like to be removed.

I was one of those people in high school that the librarian caught dog earring books. After her lecture, I never did it again. Good post.

I like the idea of the foreign stamps.. that would look really nice, original and unique!!

I tried the postcard before.. I laminated that and it worked like a charm but only for the big books :)

Jenna: Good to see you have a blog ID now!

Robin: Thank you. Woe to those who receive the wrath of a librarian....

I only use onetype any more. My books get tossed in and out of my backpack I take to work every day so regular bookmarks are simply useless as they fall out - a lot.

For the past couple of years I only use magnetic bookmarks that clip over the page. They never fall out.

This link sells them singly, but I've always found them in packages of 4. Right now I'm using a penguin. I got The Hubster some football ones.

SuziQ: Thank you! I have a few of those too. I've never been to the link, I always pick them up at the bookstore. Those little beauties are fab. I need to move all of my bookmarks to one location so I can remember to use them.
