MIDNIGHT RIOT - Ben Aaronovitch

From the back of the book: Probationary Constable Peter Grant dreams of being a detective in London's Metropolitan Police. Too bad his superior plans to assign him to the Case Progression Unit, where the biggest threat he'll face is a paper cut. But Peter's prospects change in the aftermath of a puzzling murder, when he gains exclusive information from an eyewitness who happens to be a ghost. Peter's ability to speak with the lingering dead brings him to the attention of Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Nightingale, who investigates crimes involving magic and other manifestations of the uncanny. Now, as a wave of brutal and bizarre murders engulfs the city, Peter is plunged into a world where gods and goddesses mingle with mortals and a long-dead evil is making a comeback on a rising tide of magic.

*****************************

Urban fantasy at its finest!! Peter Grant dives right into the world of the supernatural after finding out he can talk to ghosts and then finds out there's a whole lot more out there. He is especially happy that he won't be a paper pusher with Case Progression Unit. He will, instead, apprentice with DCI Nightingale and learn all that there is to know in the supernatural world as a wizard.

MIDNIGHT RIOT has grit, snort laugh humor, and very excellent look at London above and below.

Off to buy MOON OVER SOHO. I really have to see what Peter and DCI Nightingale are going to get up to next.

Five sparling wizards and ghosts diamonds.....

Yay! I loved this one! I'm caught up, though, and waiting for a new one.

Sounds nice and different, with gods in it! Which panteon? Or all of them?

Becky: You are the one who turned me onto Ben. Your enthusiasm caught my attention.

Aurian: It is definitely not a cozy, but it is superb. The gods and goddesses are all over the place.
