BOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING: A Library Lover's Mystery - Jenn McKinlay

From the back of the book: What is the only word in the English language that ends in -mt?

Answering tricky reference questions like this one is more than enough excitement for recently single librarian Lindsey Norris. That is, until someone in her cozy new hometown of Briar Creek, Connecticut, commits murder, and the most pressing question is whodunit.....

Lindsey is just getting into her groove as the director of the Briar Creek Public Library when a vacationing New York editor brings a little buzz to the small town. It's the perfect chance for her friend Beth to sell the children's book she's written. Unfortunately, Beth's boyfriend, Rick, a famous author and local celebrity, tries to stop her. When Lindsey and Beth meet the editor, they uncover the real reason for Rick's bad attitude....

They go to confront Rick at his house on the storied and mysterious Thumb Islands, only to find him murdered. The local chief of police likes Beth for the murderer and isn't interested in looking elsewhere. Now Lindsey has to act fast before they throw the book at the wrong person....

******************************

I already love Jenn McKinlay's Cupcake Bakery Mystery series and now I've added the Library Lover's Mystery series to the must get list. I read BOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING in almost one sitting, one quiet shift in August.

It has characters to like, empathize with, heartily dislike. When I find myself yelling at the character in the book to "dump the pewp-cranium boyfriend, you can do better!", I know I've connected with the characters in the book.

Stir in the diggable characters with a well told story and well-crafted mystery, I was in cozy mystery heaven.

The chapters are numbered with a library checkout sleeve like one would find in the back of the library book. There are knitting patterns and fab recipes like 'Sully's Hot Chocolate' and 'Mary's Clam Chowder'. Jenn also explains how-to of a 'crafternoon' which I'd love to participate in some day. Have to look for one in my area.

Five crafternoons in the library beans.....

I worked as a librarian for many years. Once a librarian, always a librarian is my motto, and I am always looking for good books that show the world that those of us behind the reference desk or running the library are really cool people.

Thanks for this review. I look forward to reading it.

Sounds like a good one again Vickie, but I really really want to know the answer to that question on the blurb now.

Patricia: Thank you for visiting! I would love to be a librarian. I think it would be the best job ever other than having my own bookshop...surrounded by books and helping people find a book that's perfect to read and answering questions.

Aurian: *grin* The answer to the question is in the book....
